He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Niemer and Mathilda "Maude" Niemer (McNamara); his son Timothy Niemer; and his siblings, Dorthea, Tom, John, Kathleen, Margaret, Mary Lou, Jim and Ann.

He is survived by: his wife Judith Kerper (Church) of Dubuque, IA; his sons, Kevin Niemer (Ellen) of Dubuque, IA, Patrick Niemer (Amy) of Asbury, IA, Gene Niemer (Kristi) of Manchester, IA and Doug Niemer (Jenny) of Victoria, MN; and his grandchildren, Ben, Stephanie, Megan, Kalee, Colin, Jeff, Noah, Sophia, Emma and John.
