He was predeceased by : his parents, P. D. Schichtl and Irene Schichtl (Ramus); and his wife Betty. He is survived by : his children, Vicki Garrelts (Mark) and Jeff Schichtl (Sheila) of Estherville; his grandchildren, Justin Garrelts, Spenser Schichtl (Brittany) and Morgan Umthun (Andy); and his great grandchildren, Jaxyn, Leah, Luke, Charlotte Schichtl, Emmett and Graham Umthun.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 17th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel-Estherville (401 N 7th St, Estherville, IA 51334). A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 18th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Estherville Lutheran Church (208 N 8th St, Estherville, IA 51334).

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Estherville VFW, Estherville Lutheran Church, or Avera Hospice.
