He was predeceased by : his parents, Charles M. Reist and Emily C. Van Gent Reist. He is survived by : his wife Cheryl L. McElroy; his sons, Scott Reist (Elizabeth) and Bryan Reist (Andrea); his grandchildren, Jane, Claire and Lucas; his brother Jeffrey Reist (Diane); and his nieces, Lauren Reist (Ryan Snitker) and Hailee Reist (Chance Sullivan).

Visitation was held on Monday, May 20th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home (1931 Houser St, Muscatine, IA 52761). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 21st 2024 at 10:30 AM at the same location.

Memorials may be made to KCCK Radio Station out of Kirkwood College of Cedar Rapids, where Steven was an avid listener and donating member or Wesley United Methodist Church in Muscatine.
