He was predeceased by : his mother Elizabeth Koch Schleder; his sister Irene Messer; his brother-in-law Phil Messer; his parents-in-law, Jack and Borghild Clark; his son-in-law Richard Bertrand; and his granddaughter-in-law Kelli McCaffree.

He is survived by : his wife Jackie; his daughters, Kathleen Bertrand, Lorraine Schleder, Dianne Hodges (Ted) and Lisa Schleder-Kirkpatrick (Don); and his grandchildren, Brandon Bertrand, Steven Bertrand, Lynn Conley, Dean McCaffree, Randi Selle, Brian McCaffree, Clay McCaffree, Jesse Hodges, Anna Hodges and Chase Kirkpatrick. He is also survived by sixteen great grandchildren; and three great -great grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Saturday, May 11th 2024 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Smith Downtown Funeral Chapel (925 S 27th St, Billings, MT 59101). A rosary was held on Sunday, May 12th 2024 at 6:00 PM at the St. Bernard's Catholic Church (226 Wicks Ln, Billings, MT 59105). A funeral service was held on Monday, May 13th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
