He was predeceased by: his parents, Ewald Elgert and Anita Elgert; and his siblings, Fred, Aubrey, Joyce and Jean.

He is survived by: his wife Helen; his son Ben (Leslie); his grandchildren, Jerri and Duncan; his son James (Maureen); his grandchildren, Hayden (Megan), Jackie and Josie; his son Greg (Colleen); his grandchildren, Max, Sam and Abby; his daughter Barb (Nevin); his grandchildren, Isabella and Nolan; and his sisters-in-law, Lillian and Rita. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
