He is survived by : his children, Shayla, Alexina and Brynn-Lee; his close friend Sara Hopper; his parents, Colleen Buffalo and Merle Yellowbird (Sherris); his stepmother Marina Jordan; his grandparents, Emily, Fred Stoyka, Larry Hodgson and Sheila Yellowbird; his siblings, Carmen Yellowbird (Sandy), Chelsea Yellowbird (Caycee), Sierra Yellowbird, Cole Yellowbird (Emily) and Jason McArthur (Braydee); his nieces and nephews, Brayden, Bryson, Brodie, Brennan, Madyx, Xander, Kaycee and Charlotte; his grandchildren, Olivia, Chaseton, Bryson Jr. and Fenn; his aunts and uncles, Sharon Buffalo, Myrna Buffalo, Shelley Walters, Sherry Hodgson, Marilyn Yellowbird, Rosella Littlechild, Claudette Yellowbird, Mitch Buffalo, Kevin L Buffalo, Stoney Hodgson, Kerrie Hodgson, Barry Hodgson, Marvin Yellowbird, Carter Yellowbird, Dion Yellowbird and Raymond Yellowbird; his sisters, Cheryl Montour, Patricia Simon and Alicia Smith; and his family, Troy Kokol, Crystal Shawanda, Dave Rough, Sheldon Surrey, Jordan Tootoo, Carey Price, Brad Leeb, Bill Cutknife, Byron Samson, Warren Samson, Brad Henke, Dean Louis, Tyler Broulette, Mike Reid, Cory Minde, Chad Minde, Kevin Saffren, Craig Thompson, Patrick Lentz, Thunderchild, Littlepoplar, Rabbitcarrier and Rocky Boy. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles.

“Dear family of Shane Yellowbird. My sincerest condolences for your loss. He was the sweetest person. I met him on a flight from Vancouver and had a chance to talk for a few minutes. He was so engaging and real. I loved his music and saw him at Capital Ex one summer. A joyous concert with so many young people from Maskwacis. I know he was a great inspiration to all. He will be truly missed but will live through your memories and music. Many blessings. P.S. Loved those dimples!”

Rocky Sodergren wrote a sympathy message

“In 2007 Shane joined Emerson Drive to help headline a golf tournament fundraising for Parkinsons research. Needless to say it was a huge success. Our staff donated their work for the day to help make it a success as the cause was close to home, my mom had Parkinson’s. We asked the organizers if the staff could get their sweaters signed but nobody showed. The staff was bummed then Shane came in! He spent time with them all and singned everything. He was so real and genuine!”
