He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Hillgartner and Mary Hillgartner; his brother Glen; his siblings-in-law, Elizabeth Hillgartner and Cliff Renshaw; and his close friend David Lindsay of Calgary.

He is survived by: his siblings, Ellen Sheldrick, Stephen Hillgartner, Gail Renshaw (late Cliff) and Kathy Hillgartner (Mark Ongaro). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
