He was predeceased by: his parents, Søren Paulsen and Ellen Paulsen; his sister Cilla Gyde-Thomsen; his brothers-in-law, Georg Gyde-Thomson, Sigurd Haugland and Bill Thompson; his mother-in-law Ingetta; and his sister-in-law Lorna.

He is survived by: his wife Marguerite Paulsen; his brother-in-law Allan; his daughters, Andrea (Jamie Paterson), Ingrid Paulsen and Ellen Paulsen (Dustin Levay); his grandchildren, Julia Paterson, Clark Paterson and Madelyn Levay; his sister Inga Haugland of Denmark; his sister-in-law Aimee; and his cousin California. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Calgary Humane Society in Hans' memory.
