He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Johannes D'Haene and Siebrig Rÿkens; and his siblings, Eugene, Pierre and Hennie.
He is survived by: his wife Wilhelmina D'Haene (Julie); his daughters, Sylvia Laing (Blair) and Karen Stewart (Colin Best); his grandchildren, Aaron (Jenny), Zach (Jenna), Jaxon, Hayley, Kallie and David; his great grandchild Rheya; his sister Helene Delmaar; and his close friend Ted.
In his final days, amid the COVID-19 pandemic that kept family from seeing him in the Brentwood Nursing Home, John stayed strong and fought for a chance to say goodbye to his loved ones — and that's exactly what he was able to do.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society.
