She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Harper Kress and Dorothy Kress; her children, Kay Jr. (Calvin), Jill (Peter), Eric and Ann (Jamie); and her grandchildren, Kim, Jack and Anna.

She died in Calgary after a mercifully brief bout of COVID-19.
