He was predeceased by: his parents, Hans Nielsen and Ellen Nielsen; and his siblings, Gerda, Karen, Emil, Niels, Else and Inger.
He is survived by: his wife Susan Nielsen of Calgary, AB; his children, Ken Nielsen (Bunee), Nancy Whelan (Kevin), Michael Nielsen (Cheri), Dan Nielsen (Kathryn) and Sarah Vanderkooi (Adriaan); and his grandchildren, Alek, Liam, Elatia, Isabelle, Emma, Ben, Joe, Caleb, Elijah, Sam, Alanna, Sylvie, Caiden, Ethan and Aaron. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
