She was predeceased by: her parents, Verna Gardiner and Russell Gardiner; her former husband Tommy Abernethy; her husband Dr. Doug Buchanan; and her daughter Gail Damberger.

She is survived by: her daughter Linda McEwen (Ken); her grandsons, Jeff Damberger (Michelle), David Damberger (Robin) and Steve Damberger (Isles); her great grandchildren, Moira, Evan, Bailey, Nia and Dani Damberger; and her sister-in-law Marilyn Bodner of Lanigan, SK. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Additional memorial trees will be planted through Canadian conservation and reforestation initiatives, as a result of memorial contributions.
