He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold Schmidt and Ruth Schmidt; his brother Leon Schmidt; his parents-in-law, Donald and Ruth Harper; and his brothers-in-law, Donnie Harper and Dwayne Harper.

He is survived by: his wife Marina Schmidt; his children, Desiree Sebree (Jay) and Marcel Jr. Schmidt (Rain); his grandchildren, Serena Sebree of Myah Schmidt, A. J, Andrey Schmidt, Gunnar Korth and Charlyn Ramirez; his sister Phyllis Schmidt of Calgary; his aunt Audrey Curtis of Vermilion; and his siblings-in-law, Lynnel, Ron Harper of Fort Macleod, James Harper (Karen) of Winnipeg and Sheldon Harper of Winnipeg. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
