Mavis Van Sertima Obituary
We are sad to announce that on October 25, 2025, at the age of 96, Mavis Van Sertima (Calgary, Alberta) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As we bid Mavis farewell, let us not mourn the absence of her physical form, but rather celebrate the essence of her spirit that lingers in the spaces between moments. For Mavis is not truly gone, but merely transformed, her energy intertwined with the fabric of the universe itself, forever dancing among the stars.
She is survived by: her children, Desiree (De Abreu), Linda (Rampersaud), Gwendoline (Walker), Michael (Van Sertima) and Andrea (Van Sertima). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, November 2nd 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Eden Brook Funeral Home (24223 Township Rd 242, Calgary, AB T3Z3K2). A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the same location.
