She was predeceased by: her husband Gordon Kirkland; her former husband William Noakes; and her parents, Maurice and Laurette. She is survived by: her children, Cheryl Bernhardt (David), Shane Kirkland (Danielle Paiva) and Patrick Kirkland (Deborah); her grandchildren, Erika, Christopher, Eryn, Grace, Nicholas and Marina; and her siblings, Odilia McClain and Wilfred Bedard (Melody). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and many cousins and beloved in-laws.

Sylvia donated to charities most often serving the poorest of the poor, and in recent years, to Operation Smile.
