She rode her bike on holiday, north from Edinburgh and 441 km around Scotland, before suddenly deciding... to become a midwife! Her mother, aunt, and all her cousins were either shot in Berlin, or torpedoed in East Prussia, by the end of January,1945. Postwar, Mum was forced to clean bricks of bombed buildings all day for 3 years during Stalin's reign, but by the time she sold her shoes for a loaf of bread during the Berlin Blockade… she had had enough! She risked her life for a third time, to finally (successfully) escape Germany. >>>”
