He was predeceased by: his former wife Hermine; his parents, Friedrich and Wanda; and his siblings, Bruno and Alicia Lutz.

He is survived by: his wife Evangeline; and his children, Paul Rode of Victoria, BC, Albert Rode (Kelly), Anthony Laughren (Danielle) and Victoria Stokes (Brendan) of Camrose. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
