Alex William Hawryluk Obituary
On August 1, 2025, Alex William Hawryluk passed away at the age of 72, surrounded by his family at the Drumheller Health Centre. He was predeceased by his father, Nicholas Hawryluk, mother, Annie Manchee (nee Malansky) and older brother, Stephen Malansky. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Barb, daughter Tina, son Michael (Kara), grandchildren Rylee and Jaxxen; brothers Jim, Richard (Leslie), Nick and Harry (Tammy); sisters Bonnie (Art) and Patricia (Neil) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alex was born in 1952 in Drumheller, AB and was educated in the local school system. While living in the valley, he met his wife and sweetheart Barb, where they lived their whole married life. Prior to having children, Alex and Barb liked to go out for a night of dancing or grabbing a burger at the local drive-in to see the latest movie.
In the early years with kids, they spent many weekends camping all around Alberta. Later, along with the help of his brothers, they built the Hawryluk family home in 1984 where they raised Tina and Mike and made many lasting memories.
Alex began working for The Drumheller Institution (Correctional Service of Canada) at the age of 19. He went on to represent the service for 45 years and became one of the longest serving Corrections Officers in all of Canada. Through all the ups and downs, he always appreciated the position and held the service in the highest regard.
Alex was happiest when it was time to visit with the grandkids or grand nieces/nephews. Being a big kid himself, Alex loved playing games and just being silly with the kids; it brought him the greatest joy and biggest smile to his face.
Alex was also a skilled builder and tradesman or as he would like to say, "I'm a jack of all trades and a master of none.". He had a love for the outdoors whether it be long walks on the nature trail or gardening in the backyard where he enjoyed watching all the various wildlife that visited. Alex was also a dear friend to many, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend – Alex was all about "Family" when it mattered the most. He will truly be missed by all those that knew him.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the EMS, doctors, nurses and family who attended to his care.
There will be a private celebration of life for the family at a future date. Alex's final resting place will be at the columbarium at the Drumheller Cemetery.
