He was predeceased by: his parents, Ludwig Friedrich and Emma Friedrich; and his siblings, Margarete, Erika, Egon and Edmund.
He is survived by: his wife Waltraud "Trudy" Friedrich; his children, Connie Rattai (Les), Rosemary Moulden (Jim), Rolf Friedrich (Susan), Judy Hastings and Martin Friedrich (Loretta); and his grandchildren, Carmen, Mark, Heather, Shannon, Emily and Laura.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 7th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Serenity Funeral Services South (5311 91 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E6E2). A graveside service was held on Friday, January 9th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the South Haven Cemetery (5004 Meridian St NW, Edmonton, AB T6P1R3). A memorial service was held on Friday, January 9th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Evangelical Fellowship Church (10511 79 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E1R9).
As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Erich to St Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital in care of Covenant Foundation.
