He was predeceased by: his parents, Judd French and Elsie French; his siblings, Walter, Cliff and Lorna; and his sister-in-law Shirley.

He is survived by: his wife Sharyn; his children, Steven (Nicole) of Penticton, B. C. and Susan (Eamon) of Greensboro, NC; his grandchildren, Cameron, Nicholas, Maeve (John), Hannah, Patrick and Charlotte; his siblings-in-law, William, Pat, Sharon and Rhonda; and his sibling's children, James (Tammy), Shawn, Greg (Mimi), Ross, Michael, Therese (Ken) and Jenny.

With the onset of Parkinson's, John had to slow down but continued to be active in many ways.
