He was predeceased by: his parents, Finn Hagtvedt and Berit Hagtvedt; and his cousin Anne-Berit Adamsrød. He is survived by: his wife Lorraine Thirsk; his sons, Benjamin and Alexander; his brother Henrik Hagtvedt; his sister-in-law Lydia; his niece Elana; his parents-in-law, Margot and Theo Thirsk; his brother-in-law Russell Thirsk (Kari); his nieces and nephews, Sydney (Chris), Evan and Anna; his sister-in-law Kimberley Thirsk (Kevin); his aunt Liv; his uncle Øivind Adamsrød; and his cousins, Marit Adamsrød (Ingvar) and Kari Adamsrød (Kim).

Flowers are welcome, or if family and friends so desire, memorial donations in Ray's honour may be made to Against Malaria Foundation, Fistula Foundation, or Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
