He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Alice Johnston and Russell Johnston; his wife Shirley; his children, Tammy McIsaac (Alan), Cindy Melnychuk (Rick) and Calvin Johnston (Polly); and his grandson Arnold. He was also cherished by four sisters and one brother, and reunited with one sister.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Diabetes Association.
