He was predeceased by : his father Vernon Coates; his grandparents, Clara, Bill Sellick, Frank and Lillian Coates; his stepson Aaron Stoodley; and his grandson Jayden Danylak.

He is survived by : his mother Violet Coates; his daughter Rylee Martz (Brandon); his granddaughter Mylah Martz; his sisters, Karen Coates (Tony Lee) and Katherine Parsons (Terry); his stepdaughter Amber Stoodley (Stephan); and his uncle Gordon Coates (Dolores). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
