He was predeceased by: his former wife Linda Atkinson; his parents, Allan Atkinson and Genevieve Atkinson; his siblings, Tim and Brenda; and his brothers-in-law, Dale Collins and Larry Ball.

He is survived by: his wife Vicki; his stepson Steve (Ben); his children, Lee Atkinson (Shelly) and Denise Giesbrecht (Dean); his grandchildren, Tanner Atkinson (Kelseigh), Connor Atkinson (Haily), Ryne Atkinson (Kalaya), Vanessa Giesbrecht, Alexandria Giesbrecht (Braden Stefanuk) and Julia Giesbrecht (Zach Kahn); and his great grandchild Shoni Kahn. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
