She was predeceased by: her parents, Marianna Gutfriend and Michael Gutfriend; her granddaughter Jaylyn Layton; and her siblings, Albin, Val, Tom, Anna Marie and Jenny.

She is survived by: her husband Tim Hammel of Medicine Hat; her children, Darwin Hammel (Elaine) of Medicine Hat and Holly Layton (Bruce) of Medicine Hat; her grandchild Chandra Holtz (Brandon); her great grandchildren, Carter of Calgary and Maylie of Calgary; her grandchild Ashley Hirsch (Tyler); her great grandchildren, Kypton of Medicine Hat and Bently of Medicine Hat; her grandsons, Mitchell Layton (Kelsie) of Coalhurst and Brayden Layton of Medicine Hat; and her sister Lena Sears of Medicine Hat. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
