He was predeceased by: his parents, Gunnard Akerstrom and Violet Akerstrom; and his wife Shirley Akerstrom. He is survived by: his sons, Randy and Darcy; his grandchildren, Kyle (Kayla), Chantel, Alex and Steven; and his great grandchild Samuel Bourlon.
