“I am so sorry for your loss. Mr Shields was one of my favourite teachers. His enthusiasm kindness towards me was memorable. I came from a small village school in to grade 9 at St Thomas and was quite overwhelmed. He made things a little easier for me. I will always remember him fondly.”

“Mr. Shields was an amazing man and he will be sorely missed. As a brand new student to St. Thomas Aquinas school, I found myself walking into his grade 7 homeroom class. He was funny, firm and fair, had an undying passion for teaching and taught me everything I know about grammar. He made me a lover of the poem Casey at the Bat and taught me latitude and longitude lines while scoring an orange to peel. Later in life, he became my mentor and colleague. May God hold him in the palm of his hand ❤”
