He was predeceased by: his parents, James Chaffey and Verena Chaffey of St Davids Newfoundland; his wife Verena; and his siblings, Theresa (Hulan), David Butt and Glenn Butt.

He is survived by: his siblings, Gus (Cliff), Edward, Sarah and Susan Butt; his uncle Raymond Butt; his children, Tamara (Tammy) and Greg Valentine; his grandchildren, Kayle Valentine, Dawson Butt, Jayna Valentine and Ariana; his great grandchildren, Nash, Theron and Loken Valentine; and his grandchildren, Maxine, Velma, Jude, Loveday Poteet and Warren James Butt.
