He was predeceased by : his parents, Albert Nayawatatic (Brertton) and Sarah Giant; his siblings, Raymond Giant, Henry Giant, Robert Giant, George Brertton, Freddy Jackson, Yvonne Brertton, Bruce Brertton and Dennis Brertton; and his grandchildren, Charlie Gadwa and Nikki Gadwa.

He is survived by : his wife Eliza Brertton; his children, Evelyn Johnston (Les), Kathleen Gadwa (Ernest), Sharon Brertton, Leona Brertton and Walter Brertton (Cesley); his grandchildren, Lisa, Ovide, Kolten, Thomas, Danielle, Taleah, Dawson, Roman, Ebonie, Samson and Malachi; his great grandchildren, Dallas, Natasha, Darian, Royce, Matthew, Chloe, Kauis, McKayla, Tommy, Iyla, Peter, Oliver, Kai, Kaiden, Micah, Nicole, Emma, Mabeline, Novan, Setrine and Andrew; his great great grandchild Xavier; and his siblings, Florence Moses, Sylvia Brertton, Doreen Nayawatatic, Doris Nayawatatic and Richard Jackson.
