“I had the sincere pleasure of knowing and working with John for a few decades. He was a great man, who used wisdom and patience with every interaction I witnessed. It was always a good night in the gym when he was on the stand. John will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Thank you my friend for creating a phenomenal legacy of Servant Leader in action.”

Rick Boyes wrote a sympathy message

“John was one of the people that made being a part of the volleyball community a truly great place to be. We traded the friendliest of barbs, between coach and official, for the past 15 years. He once gave me a yellow card for walking into a gym and sitting in the stands! Another time he sat his chair behind my bench to “heckle me for a change”! My deepest condolences to all John’s family, friends, former teaching colleagues and fellow officials. The world was a better place with John. Rick Boyes”

“I was sorry to hear about the passing of John. He hired me as a new teacher a long time ago and we worked together until he retired. He was an advocate of health and fitness at our school and was very proud of our Daily Gym program, which we still have to this day. I am thinking of you all during this difficult time and hoping you find peace in the days to come.”

“Deepest Sympathy Debbie and family. I worked with John for 10 years at Eckville Elementary. Interesting working with him as he always supported the Heart and Stroke Foundation and always encouraged the students to participate in physical activities as he was very athletic. His passing is quite shocking to say the least. May all the memories comfort you all at this time. Laurie Wacher.”
