He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren McCandless and Lou McCandless; Ivan and Willa Wright. He is survived by: his wife Jane; his daughter Kyla Ross (Curtis) of Taber; his grandchildren, Trey (Jaela), Walker and Cooper; his daughter Brianna Pulkinen (John) of Livelong; his grandchildren, Kovan, Seija and RJ; his brother Michael McCandless (Barbara); his nephew Matthew (Nisha); his great-niece Kathleen (Jim); his brother Chuck McCandless (Nancy); his nephew Ethan (Dione); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Cara (Bruce) and Annaliese (Dennis); and his brother-in-law Derrich Wright (Trish). He is also survived by brothers, mum and grandmother.

As a result of the restrictions regarding COVID-19, and the government's recommendations, a private funeral service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber on Friday, August 28, 2020.
