He was predeceased by: his child Pat Bernice (Alan); his wife Mary; his parents, Ignacy Smyl and Zofia Smyl; and his brothers, Bernard, Florian, George, Mike and Joe.

He is survived by: his sons, Randy (Tricia) and Wayne (Christina); his grandchildren, Jackie, Krista, Karly, Jordan of Tyler, D. J., Vicki, Sierra and Haley; his great grandchildren, Kaylee, Kade, Brock, Brina, Brielle, Koen, Carter and Ivanna; and his siblings, Leonard, Henry and Eileen.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in John's name can be made to the Friends Of Whitecourt with the funds going to the CT Scanner Fundraiser.
