He was predeceased by: his former wife Käthe. He is survived by: his wife Eve; and his children, Gisela, Veronica, John and Jeff (Lisa). He is also survived by five grandchildren, family in Paraguay and many friends.

Helmut lived his life with fortitude and gratitude, even when Alzheimer's and physical illnesses took hold in the last months of his life.
