It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Francis Eleanor Smurthwaite (Burnaby, British Columbia), born in Holland, Manitoba, who passed away on March 9, 2020, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Scott and Anne Scott (Sundell); her husband Thomas James Smurthwaite; her siblings, Anna Harris (Neuf) and John Scott (Jack); her grandson Michael Smurthwaite; and her son-in-law Darren Redman.

She is survived by: her children, Terri, Patti, Thomas (Elizabeth) and Donnie; and her sister Jean Tscharke. She is also survived by 9 Grandchildren & 8 Great-Grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in her name.

“Ellie was a dear first cousin to my dad, Les Sundell as well as many other cousins, not necessarily first but she was a sweet lady who will be remembered by all of us! Without fail, your dear Mom would call us just before Christmas to wish us well. She started calling in 2011 after we had moved from Holland, Mb. to Chilliwack. She helped me when I was writing our family history, with you histories, which was much appreciated! Please accept our love and most sincere condolences! Wendy & Larry”
