Sylvia Ann Jago (née Ariss)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Ann Jago (née Ariss) on June 10, 2026, at the age of 79.
Sylvia lived her entire life in Campbell River, where she was well known throughout the community. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend, and to many students throughout her career and beyond, she was simply known as “Mom.”
She dedicated much of her working life to School District 72 as a secretary, primarily at Carihi Secondary School, where she was a familiar and valued presence to students, staff, and families.
Following her retirement in 2002, Sylvia enjoyed gardening, spending many hours tending her yard and creating a space she took great pride in. She also made homemade jams, which she shared at local craft fairs, where her warmth and products made her a favourite among customers and fellow vendors. Sylvia also loved to travel, particularly to the Orkney Islands, where her family roots trace back.
Sylvia was a devoted member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 137, in Campbell River, where she spent many hours volunteering and building lasting friendships.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin and Norma Ariss, and her brother, Garth Ariss.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Trevor Jago; her son, Troy Alexander; her brother-in-law, Peter Jago; her sister-in-law, Ann Jago; and many extended family members and friends.
A private family service will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 137 Hall in Campbell River. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., with entertainment beginning at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Campbell River Hospital Foundation or Royal Canadian Legion Branch 137, Campbell River.
Sylvia’s kindness and community spirit will be dearly missed.
