He was predeceased by: his father Pat; his sister Tiffanie; his brother-in-law Jason Doddridge; and his sibling's children, Amelia and Patrick.

“Dear Linda, Tiffany and family, "Shawny" was on the first hockey team I coached, upon arrival in Chilliwack in the fall of 1992. He was eight years old and my boy, Seth was nine. Shawn's late dad Pat, was quick to offer his help as an assistant coach that season. Our "hockey paths" crossed for a number of years, and I think of "Pat McGuire Esquire" often and was so sorry to hear of Shawn's passing. May he rest in peace. Tim Lollar (Lori).”
