He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh Newell and Mary Newell; his mother-in-law Gay Grundy; his brother Alvin; and his sister-in-law Nina.

He is survived by: his wife Larke; his children, Craig, Chad (Renee) and Janelle (Andrew); his grandchildren, James, Ashley, Lauren, Scarlett and Benjamin; his brother Raymond; and his siblings-in-law, Mark (Tammy), Rod (Kory), Twyla and Dorothy. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
