BARRY WAYNE JARVIS Obituary

Barry Wayne Jarvis

August 21, 1944 – March 10, 2020

The family of Barry Jarvis is saddened to announce that he died (pancreatic cancer) on March 10, 2020 in Grand Forks B.C. at the age of 75 years.

Born in Camrose, Alberta on August 21, 1944 to Frank and Evelyn Jarvis he was big brother to Carroll, Peg and Wendy. His school years were spent in Edmonton, where he met and dated the love of his life in grade nine, Donna Van Wyck,. Her family moved away during their high school years but the two reconnected in their early twenties. They married a few months later in 1967, and they welcomed daughters Jennifer and Lindi in the early 70’s to complete their family unit.

A smart, hard worker with a strong work ethic, Barry was successful in many different roles during his long career to support his family. He was a pragmatic, respected manager. For many years he worked in Calgary at Airgas Canada Inc. as a controller. Later in his career he took time out to explore the U.S. in their motorhome with Donna and their little dogs. Many of his fondest memories involved camping and the special people who joined him around the campfire.

Barry and Donna chose to retire in 2008 on their beautiful riverfront property in Grand Forks, B.C. He always took pride in his lush green yard, his organized garage, and his vehicles – of which he had many over his lifetime. He loved to drive and was always putting miles on the odometer to spend time with friends and family, including holidays and events that involved his six grandchildren. He came from an era of clear-cut values, and he imparted many of those ‘water is wet and rocks are hard’ kind of lessons to his children and grandchildren all the while teasing them playfully about their lives. They adored him all the more for it.

Barry is survived by his wife Donna; daughter Jennifer (Darrin) and their children Natalie, Megan & Sophia, and daughter Lindi (Rob) and their children Annika, Sage & Hudson (Ziggy); sisters Peg (Mark), and Wendy and nieces Roberta & Jillian; sister-in-law Laurel (Daniel, deceased) and nephews Daniel II & Paul & niece, Jacqueline; nephew Craig and niece Kimberly of sister Carroll (deceased) & Barry Tomalty.

Barry was one of the good guys and there aren’t many left like him. He will be sincerely missed by all. At his request, a celebration of life will be held this summer in one of his favourite camping spots. As one of his songs goes, “See you later, alligator. After ‘while crocodile.”
