He was predeceased by: his parents, Agda Schmidt (Rosen) of Wetaskiwin and Ernst Schmidt of Germany; and his siblings, Ruth, Agda, Ernie and Allan.
He is survived by: his wife Thelma (Stewart); his children, Melva Herman (Marvin) and Donald Schmidt (Kevin); and his siblings, Ted of Kamloops and Joanne Ottewell of Delta. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even a great great grandchild.
