He was predeceased by: his parents, Douglas and Irene. He is survived by: his friend Joe; his sisters, Virginia and Susan (Donald); his wife Patricia; his children, Shauna (Phurba), Krista (Scott) and Toby (Regina); his grandchildren, Morgan, Parker, Harris and Chöying; his niece Jodi; and his nephews, Ryan and Scott (Joe).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert's name to the Kamloops Brain Injury Association.
