Words of sympathy

Ian Seitz wrote a sympathy message

“To me, he was known as Bald Eagle - or Grandpa Eagle as I loved to call him - because he was such good friends with so many in tghe reserve near him, & he always seemed to know any good news or dirt on others before anyone else. I served in his area of Kamploops as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-dat Saints; he was a less-active member on the congregation at the time. Yet when I went over to his home that first day back in 2007, he was simply one of the kindest men I had ever met, right beside my dear Grandfather who I was named after (that’s why I called him Grandpa Eagle, for he was another grandparent & dearest of friends to me). He loved taking us to the Lotus Inn, a Buffet in Kamloops. One time he said he’d never speak to me again if I paid for my own meal; he always wanted to cover for us, showing his appreciation for restoring some of his faith & putting in his own effort toward the good work of God, is how he put it. I loved him very much, visiting him throughout the years as a missionary & always calling him every Christmas, sending him goofy cards & cartoons I drew of him from all the stories he’d tell us missionaries. He would send cards to me too but always with money; he was a truly generous soul full of laughter every visit & phone call, making me feel like what I shared about my life mattered. I’d laugh & slap my knee too as we chat, because I felt the same way - his life mattered so very much. I still remember that incredible laugh. Though now I weep as I write this, as it’s been a year & I only found out of his passing with someone else having his phone number which he always had... I should have done more, I should have called more, visited again & in person with his splendid company. My family & I were suppose to visit him this past Christmas (2018) but I remember calling him again & telling him how our vehicle broke down on the island & we had to fly back instead... He had a giggle (perhaps he thought it ironic), he said his old saying to me after I said we’d see him soon, “ I may not be here ya know; that’s how it is, one day here then gone the next.” However, he used to always say another saying to me when I asked him how he was, & I used to repeat it with him as the years went by: “How are ya, Bald Eagle?!” “Still in the land of the living, as miserable as ever!” Hahaha, we’d laugh & I had cried with him too just like I am now. Well Bill, Grandpa Eagle, I know how you are now - in the land of those past, as happy as ever. If others doubt it, I am the witness against them of one who truly knew him as worthy child of God, who now has had a year in the arms of his Maker. Love you Bald Eagle, Bill, my brother, & thank you for sharing your life & example as a disciple of our Lord, Jesus Christ with me.”
