He was predeceased by: his wife Surinder Kaur Purewal; his parents, Pritam Singh Purewal and Ranjit Kaur Purewal; and his sister-in-law Gurmail Singh Sidau. He is survived by: his children, Gurjit Purewal and Baljit Kaur Lalli; his grandchildren, Ekroop, Balmehar, Prabhleen and Jeevan; his brother Harninder Singh Purewal; his parents-in-law, Rajinder Sengh Gill and Kartar Kaur Gill; and his siblings-in-law, Hardeer Singh Gill, Sukhjit Kaur Gill and Baldeesh Kaur Sidhu.
