Roy Edward Collins Obituary
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Roy Edward Collins at the age of 65. He was born June 8, 1960, in Nanaimo, BC. He is survived by his partner of 25 years, Adina Monson, and his son, Garry Collins, his sister Gwen, brothers Garry, Brian, and Darrell, as well as a large extended family and many friends who all cherished him, loved him, and will greatly miss him.
Roy Collins was rooted in Nanaimo, having been born and raised there. Even though he ventured away to start a family and gain work experience, he always came back to his roots: his home. Born in the 60s he was raised in a large family with four older sisters, three older brothers, and a younger brother all carrying the Collins name. A name that carried its own meaning, reputation and memories for all acquainted with it. This recognition taught him that he must forge his own path to be his own unique self.
Roy wore many hats in his short life: he was a teacher to many, and a caregiver to anyone who needed help. However, most of all, he’s remembered as the proverbial comedian or jokester catching many in the cross hairs of his snappy, head-turning, and witty comments. This talent helped lighten the mood and ease his anxieties, but they were always delivered out of love and respect.
Roy was an avid reader who loved true crime, cryptozoology, anything about the West Coast Trail, and history. He enjoyed the outdoors, often driving to off-beaten paths to walk, fish, or simply relax. In the past 25 years, with the coaxing and persuasion of his partner, Adina, he was able to travel to Washington, Reno, Vegas, Penticton, and Calgary, experiencing many new adventures and creating wonderful memories.
In true Roy fashion, the math whiz went home in style. Born in 1960, he passed away at 65, on the 11th month, the 16th day, which was the 25th Anniversary he celebrated with his partner, Adina. For Roy, he needed to have a connection, nothing could be uneven, always symmetrical, easy to remember and he continued this pattern to the end.
In keeping with Roy's request, there will be no service.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the NRGH High Acuity Unit (HAU) for their support and dedication to Roy during his stay—your staff went above and beyond.
Rest well, Roy (Lone Wolf). You are at peace with God and your family. We who remain will carry the Collins torch from here—you’ll be in our hearts forever. Love you always and forever.
