Thomas James Labounty Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas James LaBounty. He passed away suddenly at home on January 29, 2024, at the age of 84.

Tom was born in Hedley, BC on July 9, 1939, to William and Mary LaBounty. As a boy, Tom grew up in Olalla, BC, where he found a love for the outdoors. When his father returned at the end of WWII, Tom and his family moved to a ranch in Rock Creek, BC.

Tom met his beautiful wife, Lynda, in Oliver. Tom and Lynda moved to Rock Creek, where they started their family. Later, they settled in Grand Forks, BC, where Tom worked for the Department of Highways. With previous logging experience as a young man, he then decided to pursue a career in the logging industry. After a few years, Tom and Lynda started their own logging company. Eventually, in 1977, Tom and his family made their final move to Peachland, BC. Tom was an inventor and a pioneer for what the logging industry is today.

As someone who loved the outdoors, Tom was lucky to work and play in 'the bush.'. Tom spent much of his free time outdoors, enjoying camping, hunting, and fishing. He was a skilled fisherman and spent many summers salmon fishing with friends and family on Vancouver Island. He took pride in looking after his yard, especially caring for Lynda's rose garden. Tom had a special connection with animals; his dogs were his world. In recent years, Tom enjoyed feeding hummingbirds and watching ravens in his beautiful yard.

Tom enjoyed spending time visiting many friends and neighbours. Most of all, Tom loved his family. He was happiest sitting in his big chair surrounded by family and friends.

Tom was pre-deceased by his parents, Bill and Mary; his stepmother, Mary; his wife, Lynda; his siblings, Norman, Billy, Jeanette, Frank, George, Mary, Fran, Alfred, and Pete.

Tom is survived by his daughter Sherry Sorensen (Paul) and son Wayne LaBounty (Tara); his grandchildren, Joe (Ashley), Jenna (Jared), Evan (Tyra), and Erin; his siblings, Jane (Al), Carol (Bob), Cliff (Yvonne), and Stan (Mazel); sisters-in-law, Pam (Gordon), Mary, and Valerie; and extended family, including many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Gone, but not forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada in honor of his wife, Lynda.

The Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Condolences, photos, and memories may be sent to the family by visiting his obituary page at http://www.springfieldfuneralhome.com
