Larry Dale Schmidt Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Larry Dale Schmidt (Prince George, British Columbia), born in Pouce Coupe, British Columbia, who passed away on June 29, 2022, at the age of 67, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Larry Dale Schmidt to pay them a last tribute.
It is with great sadness that I say good-bye to my Husband and best friend of 46 years.
Larry Schmidt passed away June 29, 2022 at 12:40 am. He is now at peace, with his parents, Henry and Esther Schmidt from Dawson Creek. He is survived by his brother Dennis Schmidt (Yvonne) of North Vancouver, his sister Darlene Taylor (Gary) of Baldonnel, BC., and his godmother Olga Brietkruitz of Wembley, BC.
Although Larry has no children of his own, he always had a soft spot in his heart for all 13 of his nieces and nephews. Our family is still expanding with 27 great nieces and nephews so far, all of whom Larry was quite proud of. He took trips as often as he could to visit his nieces and nephews as not all of them live close by. He looked forward to the times that we had visits from any of the kids.
I would like to share a comment made by one of Larry’s dearest cousins, I think this captures him perfectly: “I’ll remember Larry the only way I knew him: larger than life with a wink and a smile, sharing tales as wide as his mischievous grin with the colourful vocabulary I only heard — and giggled hysterically about — when he was around.
My only experience of him involved his towering build, his booming voice, his hearty laugh and his taller-than-average tales that made his presence known whenever he walked into a room. ;)”
Larry started his work career in Fraser Lake as a Heavy Duty Mechanic. He enjoyed all of his jobs and the people he met along the way. He worked in Tumbler Ridge, Logan Lake, and finished his career with Brandt Tractor in Prince George, before retiring.
Larry loved to drive his big motorhome. He liked traveling with it as and he took us places which seemed impossible, but Larry enjoyed the challenge. The most exciting trips were going to the Yukon with family, and the trip we took across Canada.
Larry enjoyed driving his 1966 Corvette Stingray, (which many of the guys envied), his Thunderbird, and Harley Davidson when the weather permitted. He had also owned a Mercedes which was a real pleasure to drive. He always had at least one other vehicle to take for a drive when the weather was not so nice as he just loved to drive.
Larry also loved the outdoors. He really enjoyed going hunting every year; most often for grouse. We did a lot of berry picking together with wild huckleberries being his favourite. He would inform me of how many berries he had picked by how many pies I could make with them. He often liked going out for drives in the bush, spotting for birds, searching for potential berry picking spots and taking in the beautiful scenery along the way.
For many years we raised pheasants, chickens, wild turkeys, and various other birds in the aviary that Larry built. Larry’s Uncle Bill (deceased) stayed with us for a while and helped quite a bit with feeding all of the birds while Larry was out in camp working.
Thank you, Larry for the wonderful life you made for me. Over the years we have laughed, cried, celebrated, and mourned together. I will cherish you all the rest of my days.
In trying to honor your wishes to be buried in your Corvette. I have arranged for a company that does 3D printing of urns to print an exact replica of your Corvette for you to rest in and cruise the heavens while you wait for me.
Your loving wife

“I was very sad to hear of Larry's passing. I first met Larry through my co worker,Carl. Larry came to work at Coast Tractor and I worked with him on many jobs in the shop or out in the bush all over the territory that we serviced. We had so many laughs and adventures. Since we both retired I often have a flash back to Larry and some job we done out in the middle of nowhere in a blizzard . My sincere Condolences to his family - Terry Williams”
