He was predeceased by: his parents, John Slater and Ruth Slater; and his siblings, Alexander, Naomi, Gladys and George.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his daughter Darien Peereboom (Christopher); his grandsons, Finnick Peereboom and Nash Peereboom; his sister Helen Murray; his siblings' children, Tracey Murray, Fiona Somerville (Alan), Sheila Slater, Allison Turpin (David), Scott Slater (Louise), Fraser Murray (Cathy), Robert Graham (Kirsten) and Iain Graham; and his brother Malcolm Graham (Margaret Jean).
