He was predeceased by: his parents, David Stirling and Margaret Stirling; his siblings, Jack, Jean Cocke, Peggy Shield and Pat Richards; and his wife Ruth Stirling.

He is survived by: his daughter Trish Stirling; his husband Cyril Barnard; his grandchildren, Siobhan Barnard (Jonas Bjarnason) and Rory Barnard; his sibling's children, David Richards, Trish Richards and Caitlin Croteau; and also, Janis Richards and Barbara Begg.
