He was predeceased by: his parents, Aini Kuisma and Armas Kuisma; and his brother Neil Kuisma. He is survived by: his sister Gilda Flynn; his brother-in-law Patrick Flynn; his nephew Michael Flynn; his nieces, Christina Phillips and Jamie Lulejian; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Kuisma. He is also survived by her family, as well as many cousins.

He became a stand-out football player at California State University, Northridge playing in the Rose Bowl Game in Pasadena, California, in 1967, and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame for his contribution to the 1967 Matador Football Team.
