He was predeceased by: his former wife Carol. He is survived by: his wife Helen; his sons, Mark, Ian, Bruce (Melissa) and Steven (Karen); his grandchildren, Emily (Anthony), Cameron, Megan, Connor, Tucker and James Acres; and his friend Korcula.
He received an honorary doctorate from Royal Roads University and, in 2002, was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in recognition of his contributions to Canada.
