Marilyn Jean (Maternick) Drepko Obituary
With much sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, Marilyn Jean Drepko, on December 20, 2025, at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC.
Jean, as she liked to be called, had been a resident of West Vancouver since 1990, having moved from Winnipeg, Manitoba to retire with her husband, Cliff. She was born in Winnipeg on March 2, 1933, one of five children raised by her mother, Julia Maternick, who immigrated to Canada from East Galicia at the age of 18 to begin a new life.
Jean met her husband Cliff in Winnipeg at an early age while attending university. Cliff was an ironworker with Dominion Bridge Co. Together they shared a long, interesting, and fulfilling life, raising their three children in Winnipeg.
In their early years, Jean and Cliff loved camping and fishing with their young family in their tralier at Hillside Beach on Lake Winnipeg. Later, Cliff was transferred to Thompson, Manitoba for a few years, where they purchased a boat and enjoyed the incredible fishing and outdoor lifestyle of northern Manitoba. Upon returning to Winnipeg, they continued boating on their cabin cruiser and formed many lifelong friendships at various yacht clubs.
Jean was very active throughout her life. She enjoyed skiing, golfing, and traveling to Europe, Hawaii, and many other destinations. She also loved playing bridge regularly at the West Vancouver Seniors’ Centre, where she and Cliff made many cherished friends.
Our family is especially grateful to Jean’s youngest son, David, who moved in with her after Dad’s passing, enabling her to remain in her own home.
Jean will be greatly missed by her surviving children: Craig (Sandy), Richard (Karen), and David; her grandchildren Cara, Kris, Christine, and Steven; her great-grandchildren Jayden and Brody; and her many nieces and nephews.
